Bedford Pipe Band (Scotland)
Formed in 1993 by our Pipe Major Donald Reid, 95% of its members mastered the pipes under his tuition, today with the help of his wife Catherine, who is also a very accomplished piper, and the pipeing tutor, Bedford Pipe Band has 25 pipers and 5 drummers. This pipe band plays at Fetes, carnavals, street parades, Bedford Remembrance day parade, and has also travelled abroad to Paris, Rome, the Somme battlefields, Spain and Germany.
With cost being a prime factor, the initial uniform consisted of a kilt and white shirt, with members supplying their own white socks, sporran and Glengarry. They were also able to acquire a number of ex army kilts from the Black Watch to get started. Although they have looked since at changing the tartan their members seem very attached to this tartan which they wear to this day.
Since June1995, with the occasion of their first public performance at Bedford Museum, the band has lived many important moments – including the unforgettable visits to Edinburgh in 2000 and 2005 when Bedford Pipe Band played with thousands of other pipes and drummers from all over the world.
